Native American Indian Ministry
The Native American population in the United States is estimated at 4.1
million. Only a small percentage of them have heard the message of Christ
and fewer still have received salvation. The religion of the masses includes
colorful but pagan ceremonies, the medicine man, and peyote, a mind-expanding
drug. Memories of forced migration, victimization, exploitation, and broken
trust, coupled with their plight of poverty and calamity, have driven thousands
to attempt an escape through alcoholism.
Surrounded by one of the most advanced nations on earth, thousands
of Native Americans live in conditions worse than those found on many
foreign missions fields. Contrary to popular belief, the government does not
feed, clothe or house the Native American.
The financial base for extended ministries on the reservation, such as youth
camps and clothing distribution, is "A Dollar a Day Gives the Gospel Away."
Churches and individuals are encouraged to participate by giving an amount
equal to $1 per day.
Evangelism & Home Missions sponsors American Indian Ministries Day
each February and an Indian youth camp emphasis in June. Brochures that
give more details about the ministry are available.
